Social Worker Jobs

Looking for a change of direction in life?

Take the first steps in your future as a Social Worker with Sandwell Children’s Trust.

About Us

We embarked on this journey with a clear purpose – simply to improve the lives of children and young people in Sandwell.

This purpose and the values that sit alongside it were developed with the help of our staff, our partners and of course the children and young people we support. It really is at the heart of everything we do!

Have trust in the Trust

Every voice is heard

When you join Sandwell you will quickly see that we value collaboration and discussion. We have an inspirational leadership team and an incredibly supportive board – chaired by Rt Hon. Jacqui Smith who brings a lifetime’s experience and wisdom to the role.

We have representative staff forums that enable us to tailor our services to best meet the needs of the communities we work with, we know that together we are stronger and are proud to have nurtured a truly inclusive culture.

We look after each other

It is often said that Sandwell is like a family, and like all families when things time are tough we wrap our arms around each other. As well as the formal support networks like employee counselling and reflective supervision, we genuinely show compassion. We know that social work can be hard, we give each other the time and space that we need.

Check out the benefits of working with us and get in touch for a chat. Sandwell has so much to offer…help us write the next chapter of our story.

We can’t do it alone

We understand the importance of partnerships and are fortunate to work alongside some fantastic like minded organisations including Sandwell Council, Sandwell Safeguarding Children’s Partnership and our regional adoption agency Adoption@Heart.

We have developed meaningful relationships across the Black Country and beyond…from the voluntary and charity sector through to our regulators, we are all pulling in the same direction to serve our purpose.

Our workforce strategy

When we thought about our workforce strategy – the way that we would set ourselves apart from other organisations – we wanted to something different. We wanted to create a platform to build an exceptional ‘offer’ to everyone that joins us, something that could grow as we mature, something that we could enhance to recognise the changing demands of social care and most importantly…something we could all be proud of.

Like everything in Sandwell, it started with a conversation. What was important to our colleagues? What were their personal aspirations and ambitions? What would help us make Sandwell the place to be…a place where people flourish?

We gathered all of the feedback, we looked around to see what the very best in all sectors were doing, and the ’12 Reasons to work in Sandwell Children’s Trust’ were born.

12 Reasons to join us

Like all great strategies, the 12 Reasons is dynamic. The framework enables us to think creatively about the way we recognise, reward and support our staff.

Don't take our word for it

The key to success is in our workforce and the shared vision to provide the best possible service to the community.

Everyone has a voice and these are the words of a few.

I have worked at two other local authorities since and I can honestly say you wont find a better place to work than Sandwell.

I can see how the Trust is changing, and the work loads are definitely reducing. The teams have had a restructure since I was here last and its definitely for the better.

The people at Sandwell are amazing, you feel like part of a family and the support I have had so far has been brilliant. I made the right decision coming back.

Social Worker – Assessment and Intervention

I am an ASYE Social worker, qualified in 2022, and I have just begun my social work career. I am thrilled to be a part of Sandwell Children’s Trust because of its ethos and commitment to improve the lives of children and young people. The perks are clear, there’s excellent opportunity for career progression and I really value visible leadership and great management.  The workplace is vibrant and promotes energy, positivity and productivity. Honestly, there is a real team ethos and a very connected leadership in which staff at every level feel cared for and listened to.

Umar Adil
ASYE Social worker

I joined Sandwell in 2009 from a Transport background – Director of Company that I started when I was 19 years old with one other colleague.

Life changes linked to health, I developed a disability and needed to move into a different area of work. I knew the organisation would be supportive to disability and by chance a job came up in Business Admin.

The best thing about working in Sandwell Children’s Trust is the ability to do a job well with support (in respect of disability).  Feel cared for – everyone actually cares.

Business Admin Supervisor

For myself, and my journey within the Trust, I will always be grateful for the opportunities I have been given and the ‘Grow Your Own’ attitude that the Trust promotes.

People often say ‘there’s something about Sandwell’ and there is – I was born in Sandwell and spent my childhood here, and I feel proud to work in Sandwell. I am part of a great team, who accept my quirks and offers the flexibility that helps me have a work/life balance that I’ve never achieved elsewhere. I like to see my own growth alongside the Trust’s growth as hand in hand, it almost feels like we have done it together.

Ellie Tarr
Senior Strengthening Families Practitioner

I love being a social worker, it is the best job in the world. I came to a point where I wanted to pass on my learning and experiences and guide others with theirs. I was very mindful that I wanted to work somewhere where my enthusiasm, drive to lead, and ambition to guide others was supported and appreciated.

Working at Sandwell Children's Trust as a team manager does all of this. I'm supported with work/life balance, where the people are so friendly it's been very easy to start my own journey and support others with theirs.
